The Story of Velocity Tint
Roger Craig's father was a lover and builder of custom vehicles. He grew up surrounded by custom trucks, sport cars, boats and motorcycles. As a result, it didn't take long for that love of vehicles to rub off on him. By 17 Roger was in the process of building a custom truck. While purchasing parts from a local restoration and custom shop for his custom truck the shop owner, James Banks, noticed the attention to detail in Roger’s work and offered him a job as his apprentice. Roger was a quick learner and it wasn't long before he was custom fabricating parts, upholstery, pin striping and working as a certified automotive sunroof installer. One day the boss asked "have you ever tinted before?" Roger’s answer was “no.” This is were he tinted his first window.
In 1990 Roger opened Pacific Tint in Santa Maria. The shop grew quickly providing quality window tinting for autos, homes, commercial buildings and just about anything with glass. But Roger didn't stop there, he added a full retail truck and auto accessories showroom to his business as well. With 8 employees under his guidance he produced some of the finest restored custom cars and custom lifted and lowered trucks on the West Coast. Many being published in national magazines such as Trucking and Street Truck. Some custom trucks were commissioned for clients as far away as Japan. Roger’s custom window tinting work and restorations earned him a solid reputation as the place to have your vehicle outfitted with 3M Window Tinting and the latest gear in the world of customizing!
Fast forward 23 years Roger has always desired a shop closer to his home in the San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande area. In 2013 he sold his business in Santa Maria and purchased a building at 1351 W. Grand Ave in Grover Beach. After a few creative months of remodeling the newly acquired building was transformed into a clean professional showroom with a highly efficient shop area and work space. The shop we know today as Velocity Tint was born.
